Space - What's out there?

This Term at W.N.S we have been learning about our Solar System and Space. Some things we have been learning about are planets, stars and galaxies. We have learnt about some planets. Some of these planets are Saturn, Mars, Jupiter, Uranus, Mercury and Neptune. We have got a wonder wall in the class and every student has written a question to try and find the answer to during research time.

Our Room 6 wonder wall

We have watched this video about our solar system on YouTube. This link will show you the video.

The Star Dome

On Monday RM 6 went to the Awesome Star Dome in the school hall. We lined up and walked in and talked lots. We meet RM 12 in the Star Dome and then learned about our Solar System. Some planets are Saturn, Mars, Jupiter & lots more. We met the owner of the huge dome, his name is Richard. He taught us that dwarf stars exist and the milky way is made from over 1.5 million stars. WOW that's a LOT!! We learnt more but I won't tell as I have too much to share. We had a question session and the students all had good ones. My eyes got sore because of the sun that was on the dome.

New Zealand Sign Language Week

This week has been New Zealand Sign Language Week. Throughout the week Room 6 students have had the opportunity to learn some of New Zealand's third official language - sign language.
We started off by learning how to fingerspell our names, using the following poster.

Students also spent time learning other words interactively using Sign Ninja. Follow the link to start learning.

Lastly, we are learning the sign language that accompanies the New Zealand national anthem, to enable us to use all three official languages when we perform it. The YouTube video is linked below.
